Young kids need good stuff to color.
Pictures that relate to people, places and things in their lives and show some of the concepts they are beginning to explore.
Spaces that are not too small and frustrating-or too large, either-but just the right size to exercise those fine motor skills and give a satisfying amount of color to the page.
Coloring is important. It's meaningful. It's creativity and artistic expression. It's fun. It's a finished work to take home and feel good about. Of course, it also lays the groundwork for myriad other skills and abilities such as writing, reading, concentration, attention to detail, completion of work and self-esteem.
Until now, it has been difficult to find large, simple images with spaces to color that are the right size and/or useful and relevant illustrations with bold, thick lines. The subjects were selected especially for the early childhood curriculum and suggestions for use offer many creative tips and ideas.
