Julia Hargrove was born in San Francisco but grew up in Colorado Springs, going through the schools in the district in which she now teaches. She has a B.A. in History and English from Western State College and an M.A. from the University of Texas at Austin. She began teaching in 1971 and began writing educational materials in the mid-1980s. Julia has also authored a series of workbooks called The Primary Source about historical documents.
