About the Author

Laura Mueller is a third generation of family authors, editors, and biographers. She is an Alumnus of Ohio State University (O.S.U.) Faculty Club, Alumni Association, Friends of the Library. She has received two Distinguished Alumni awards from Notre Dame Alumni Association. She is a member of the International Perfume Bottle Association (I.P.B.A.) and a previous member of the U.K. Compact Club, Ohioana Library. She has written three books on Compacts and vanity cases.

Review

Hundreds of compacts, as well as some of the advertising, patent drawings and more, are pictured in the book. A compact is defined as a small cosmetic case containing only face powder and a mirror; a vanity case, sometimes called a double compact, also contained rouge. There were other variations. A triple case added a place for lipstick. A combination case might contain a coin holder or a place fro a comb. Whatever style a woman chose, or was given as a gift, it was an important fashion access.
