Joan Waldman grew up on a farm near Humphrey, Nebraska. Since the mid-1970s, she has been a quiltmaker, designer, and teacher. For years, Joan sketched pieced designs and settings on graph paper and eventually began to draw applique designs. This was mostly done in the evenings, after her children were in bed. As her children grew up and left the nest, Joan began stitching the designs that had lived only on paper for so long. With numerous sketch books full of design ideas, one of Joan's greatest joys is sharing her designs with others. She is continually searching for new ways to create with fabric and thread. Providing her designs with a variety of techniques and settings is Joan's forte. She is co-founder of the Calico Quilt Club of Columbus, Nebraska, and member of the Country Piecemakers Quilt Guild of Norfolk, Nebraska, Nebraska State Quilt Guild, NQA, and AQS.
