About the Author:
A Kalona, Iowa, quilt show in the early 1980s was the catalyst that inspired Pennie Horras to try her hand at quiltmaking. She sewed along for years, teaching herself from quilt books, magazines, TV, and trial and error. The real kicker came when she received an Iowa State Fair blue ribbon for a quilt named Here Come The Clowns and a viewers' choice award at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas, for You've Come A Long Way, Sister. These surprising awards so inspired her that she's never looked back. Every quilt she makes is documented, and today the count is over 400. Here Come The Clowns has been included in the American Quilter's Society 2002 Quilt Art Engagement calendar and We've Come A Long Way, Ladies was accepted in the 2001 AQS quilt show in Paducah, Kentucky. Betsy's Flag was contributed to the AQS United We Quilt project, a traveling exhibit of quilts by AQS authors, created in response to the events of September 11, 2001. Her teaching headquarters is Stitches Galore, Kalona, Iowa, and she is a member of the Northside Strippers quilt guild in Fairfield, Iowa.
