PreSchool-K-Featuring a loving family of four, this charming book celebrates the highlights of each season. Favorite activities are depicted in three or four double-page illustrations and described in flowing rhymes. The parents and two children are shown enjoying the changes in weather, which engage all of their senses. For example, they smell the freshness of a spring day, feel sand between their toes in the summer, see their breath in the fall, and taste warm cocoa in the winter. The collage artwork is fresh and fun to peruse: leaves were individually cut from tissue paper, the hillside sheep were made from cotton balls, flowers were created from buttons, a duck sports a real feather, and scarves were fashioned from scraps of ribbons. With angular features and triangle-shaped bodies, the characters have a stylized appearance. Purple, orange, blue, and green dominate the color scheme, and the well-designed spreads are filled with movement. A delightful book that will work as well with one child as it will in a storytime setting.-Maryann H. Owen, Racine Public Library, WI

PreS-Gr. 2. Many books about seasons view the seasons as distinct. Not this one, which is a joyous inventory of what each season brings. Bronson's vivid, flowing collage art, with a swirly chalk line that suggests the wind, moves the story from one season to the next. The text, too, emphasizes transitions. In rhyming text a little girl describes how she knows when one season is ending and the next is beginning: her mother plants the garden; her father takes her fishing; she goes camping with her family; she flies kites with her brother, trick or treats on Halloween, and makes snow angels in winter. The artwork is a good match. Fresh and delightful, it's filled with button flowers, cotton-ball sheep, a rainbow made of paper strips, and ribbon scarves. Connie Fletcher
