Reviews

PreS-Gr 2-Beginning readers will enjoy a backyard adventure with Jill and her dog in this addition to the series. When Aunt Sally comes for a visit with her frisky feline, Hulk, poor Bingo takes drastic action to hide his bones. Unfortunately, he forgets where they are until Jill comes to his rescue and makes a map that shows where he buried them. A number of "position words" are introduced in the story, including around, outside, through, behind, between, and left and right. A simple map with childlike illustrations helps Bingo and readers recognize the hiding spots in the yard. The lively, colorful illustrations have many helpful clues for decoding the text and using mapping skills. A page of activities for adults to use with children to reinforce the concepts/skills presented is appended.-Maura Bresnahan, Shawsheen School, Andover, MA
