About the Authors
Lewis B. Montgomery is a pen name for Mara Rockliff, who is also the author of many other books for Kane Press under the pen names Nan Walker and Eleanor May. She is famous for her lemon bars, her holey socks, and her imitation of a gorilla, which makes up in enthusiasm for whatever it may lack in technical accuracy. She lives in eastern Pennsylvania with her family.
Amy Wummer has illustrated more than 50 children's books. She uses pencils, watercolors, and ink―but not the invisible kind.

Gr 1-3–In this installment in the series, Milo and Jazz, with the help of their pen pal, private eye Dash Marlowe, discover why everything seems to be going wrong at the 4th of July fair. Weird things happen left and right, like the Hottest Chili Pepper contest entries disappearing. Is it sabotage or just a series of unfortunate accidents? The story is simple, and children will enjoy solving the mystery. Black-and-white spot art appears frequently throughout, creating a text that will not intimidate children just starting to read chapter books.
