Starting Out with C++ teaches C++ from the ground up, and assumes no prior background in programming. In Starting Out With C++, Gaddis makes a very detailed and slow-paced presentation of both programming and C++ syntax concepts so all readers will be able to follow along. Objects are introduced after control structures, functions, arrays, and pointers, and C-style strings are used throughout. The book includes the hallmark pedagogocial features that readers of Gaddis books have come to expect. Readers who are new to programming, as well as those with prior work in other languages will find this text beneficial.

Features:
· Classes are introduced in Chapter 7 immediately after functions.
· Object oriented programming techniques are woven into each chapter after that.
· The function main headers read "int main()".
· The programs include the newer header files (without the .h extension) and use the "using namespace std;" statement.
· In addition, the string class is presented as an alternative to C-style strings. (C-style strings are still discussed, since students will probably see them in legacy code, in the workplace.)
Supplements: Microsoft Visual C++ CD is shipped with the book.
Student Disk: included in the text is a disk which contains all source code for each example program in the book.
Instructor Materials: Test Bank, Casestudy solutions, Programming Challenge Solutions and Answers to the even-numbered review questions are included.
