About the Author

Will D. Campbell is a country farmer, lecturer, and humorist. Campbell is the award-winning author of Brother to a Dragonfly, listed by The New York Times as one of the best books of 1977; The Glad River, winner of the Friends of American Writers Award; and several other volumes including his most recent non-fiction work, The Stem of Jesse. His many accolades include the prestigious Lyndhurst Prize, given in recognition of his collective works; the inagural Alex Haley Award for Distinguished Tennessee Writers; and the 1994 Tennessee Governor's Award for the Arts. Campbell is a graduate of the Yale University Divinity School and holds honorary doctorates from Wake Forest University and the University of the South. A longtime civil rights activist and self-proclaimed "steeple drop out," he and his wife have lived on a farm near Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, since 1977.
