PreSchool-Grade 1-Redheaded twins Julie and Justin (seen monthly in Ladybug magazine) appear here, along with their sheepdog, Mop. In Concert, the children take their pet on a trip to the park with Dad. When the canine disappears, the group finds him singing along with a six-piece band. The story concludes with a backyard concert at home for family and friends. In Hunt, the twins and their dog visit Granddad, who shows them his collection of sailor memorabilia, including a treasure map, and tells them stories of his days on the high seas. The children create a map for their grandfather to follow with the promise of a plate of cookies as the prize. However, Mop's nose is apparently more finely honed than Granddad's map skills, and by the time the man has reached the treasure's supposed location, the cookies have vanished. Both books end with suggestions for crafting items introduced in the stories such as musical instruments and a treasure map using invisible ink. Cheerful pen-and-watercolor illustrations brighten these good-natured books about a close-knit family and their canine companion. Enjoyable selections for storytime/craft programs.
