About the Author

Jeff Markell is a former officer in the U.S. Merchant Marines and has sailed most of the major oceans of the world. With over 30 years experience owning and operating pleasure crafts ranging from 8’ dinghies to 50’ cruising boats, he is uniquely qualified to write this book. He is a member of the U.S. Power Squadrons – Squadron and District Commander and the found of the San Juan Power Squadron in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He is also a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Jeff Markell is the author of "Coastal Navigation for the Small Boat Sailor" and the "Sailor’s Weather Guide." He is also a contributing Editor for Ocean Navigator Magazine and the Pacific and Atlantic Boating Almanacs. He currently writes for "The San Diego Log" and numerous boating publications. Jeff currently resides in San Diego, California.
