About the Author

Carlene Thissen is president of Retail Systems Consulting, and is a leading authority on electronic marketing. Before starting this consulting business, she worked for Lucky Stores, SUPERVALU and Information Resources, Inc., in a 25-year career in the consumer packaged goods industry. Ms. Thissen has authored several mauals on technology for the Food Marketing Institute (FMI). She also produces In-Store, a leading electronic marketing newsletter, and writes a regular column in Brand Marketing.

John Karolefski is editor of Brand Marketing, a monthly publication for consumer goods manufacturers, and senior editor of Supermarket News, a weekly newspaper for retailers. Prior to his 23-year-career of business writing and editing, Mr. Karolefski was an award-winning military journalist during a four-year tour of duty in Italy with the U.S. Air Force. He received a B.A. in English from Fordham University in 1970.
