I wrote this book NOT because I'm an especially kind person, but because my life was changed dramatically as a result of the kindness of others. I am living proof of the transformational power of kindness. This was actually the second book I wrote on kindness, but it was the first to be published. I wrote what turned out to be KINDNESS QUOTIENT first. It's about how to be kind to people who cannot or will not reciprocate. (Think kids who have been severely abused or otherwise traumatized, Alzheimers patients, and otherwise irritable, ill, or mean-spirited people.)When I submitted the first manuscript into the publisher, they responded with, "It's good, but it's heavier than we wanted. We had hoped for an uplifting, light and easy, little book about 101 intentional acts of kindness.  YIKES! ONE HUNDRED AND ONE WAYS TO BE KIND?!?With a promise that they would publish Kindness Quotient AFTER Acts of Kindness, I sat down in front of a blank computer screen to try my best to come up with 101 ways to be kind. When I had about 15 things listed in double spaced bullets, I was empty--completely devoid of any clues on kindness. 101, really?I started checking in with my friends who are pastors, priests, missionaries, foster, adoptive, and kinship parents, social workers, mental health professionals, teachers, mentors, coaches, people on the front lines in the fight against child sex trafficking, child advocates, etc. I observed their lives, asked questions, and learned about kindness from the lives of the people who have made it their lifestyle. I am confident that Acts of Kindness--101 Ways to Change Our World is transformational because everything on that robust list is practical, simple, and most importantly, PROVEN!

About the Author

Rhonda Sciortino is a motivational speaker, author and success coach. She overcame abuse, homelessness, and poverty to become a financially successful entrepreneur, business woman and advocate for abused children. She's the chair for the Successful Survivors Foundation, which was created to collaborate with public and private child welfare organizations, the faith-based community, business and community leaders, and schools throughout the country to provide the framework within which foster alumni can establish healthy relationships, mine the lessons out of their adversity, and apply those lessons to create their own personal and professional success. Rhonda serves as a spokesperson for Vanguard University's Global Center for Women and Justice and for Foster Care Alumni of America. She is a regular contributor to Foster Focus Magazine, Fostering Families Today Magazine, and Children's Voice Magazine. Rhonda lives in Newport Beach, CA with her husband.
