Synopsis
Day by Day chronicles the movements of Essex-class carrier USS Intrepid CV-11 -- the Mighty I -- during World War II, from the day it was first commissioned in 1943 to its return stateside in 1945. Now the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in New York City, this aircraft carrier was the most hit ship in the Pacific Fleet during WWII. Many never-before published photos from the author's unique collection make this book an invaluable record for veterans and historians. Entries from the official log cover every detail -- from first take-off to last landing, targets hit, planes lost, rescues, kamikaze attacks, burials at sea, and more. About the Author
Anthony F. Zollo was one of the Marines assigned to the Navy ship Intrepid in WWII, and served as orderly to two captains, one admiral, and the ship's executive officer in drydock. He kept a diary while on board -- a hanging offense! -- and for the last half century has devoted himself to collecting and preserving the written and filmed history of the Intrepid. Founder of Men of the Intrepid of WWII, he maintains a list of every crew member from that era. The organization welcomes family of crew members as well.
