Colleen Sabatino is a Nationally Certified Career Counselor and owner of Advanced Career Development Incorporated (ACDI). Prior to launching ACDI in 1998, Sabatino worked as associate director of career services at Rice University, career counselor at Vanderbilt University, and director of career services for Jewish Family Services. She lives in Atlanta.
Sabatino, a nationally certified career counselor with more than 10 years of experience, uses the metaphor of theater dramas as an inspiration for career life. In Act 1, she gives the reader numerous quizzes that are fun to take and that uncover deeper insight than typical tests of this sort. They include assessment of Values, Preferences (personality type), Talents, and Interests and reveal your general Type, such as Creator, Pursuer, Maximizer, or Humanitarian. With this knowledge in hand, the reader goes on to Act 2, which includes the Script (resume), the Production (networking), the Audition (interview), and Making the Deal (negotiating). Sabatino points out that only two of a possible 10 positions are posted on the open market, and her networking section is particularly useful. It is a step-by-step process that can be followed so that even the most timid can work their way into advantageous situations to create career opportunities and gain an edge over the competition, which is a must in today's job market.
