Pliable, colorful, and bake-in-the-oven polymer clay is the perfect material for youngsters. With this terrific just-for-kids manual from a renowned polymer clay artist, children can get their creative juices flowing. A comprehensive basics section covers everything from rolling, cutting and sculpting to mixing new colors and creating textures. Kids will really love the cool tricks, too, including marbling and embedding objects.

Grade 5-8-In this attractive book, Dean explains the basics of handling this modeling material and then presents 30 clever projects that will appeal to both boys and girls. If youngsters take the time to read the 17-page introduction, which spells out safety and handling tips, they will be able to do the projects without much adult assistance. For those who have not read it, the instructions can be confusing. Each project is well illustrated with color photos that show each step of production. Other catchy photo illustrations are purely decorative. Some of the projects require only clay and household items to complete, but others call for materials such as a baked tile or an embroidery hoop, which are obtainable at craft stores. Dean recommends special tools that are also available at craft stores and are a bit pricey, but always gives household alternatives. A great resource.
