Writing this book was a fascinating journey in coming up with projects that were innovative enough to be something you'd want to add to your homestead as well as straightforward for you to build. I also wanted to be sure they'd be good-looking--an asset to your property and easy on the eye for the neighbors.
These also had to be functional projects that were easy to use and maintain. That meant looking at a lot of projects on existing homesteads to see what worked and what didn't. An example: Too many chicken coops require you to get down on your knees to gather eggs and top up the feeder and waterer. I learned with my several flocks of poultry that if my coop is easy to access, I'll do a better job of caring for my birds. I also tried hard to keep things simple--no exotic materials and nothing that is crazy hard to build. You should be able to find all your building supplies at your local home center. It is my hope that the steps and plans provided will be enough guide anyone who is moderately handy.
