About the Author
A prolific writer on horsemanship, Cheryl Kimball has contributed articles to Western Horseman, The Equine Journal, The Horse's Maine, and many other magazines. She is the author of The Everything Horse Book and Mindful Horsemanship. She lives in Middleton, New Hampshire.

Grade 4-8 - For kids who have ever wondered if there is a certain color that complements their horse more than another, what last-minute checks they need to do before entering a show ring, how to dress for success, and much more, this handbook is invaluable. Presenting a wealth of information in a well-organized and enthusiastic manner, the author also addresses the more serious issues such as safety and good sportsmanship. The format is appealing, with lots of colorful photos of young people engaged in riding activities. Both Western and English riding are shown. Amusing cartoon illustrations are interspersed throughout, and a one-page "Show Story" in each chapter describes the relevant experience of an individual rider. For example, in "Moving Up," Jill has to decide what she wants to do with her horse now that she has taken up jumping. This volume is a treasure trove for anyone interested in showing.
