Grade 3 Up-- Combining fact with fun, this addition to nature sections is sure to please many readers. Using movable parts, scratch and sniff, 3D glasses, and other gimmicks, the van der Meers explore the vast variety of animal survival techniques. The many full-color illustrations generally serve to explain as well as entertain. Only metric measurements are used, which may confuse American audiences. The lack of any organization--chapters, index, page numbers, or a glossary to define many difficult terms--limits this otherwise valuable work to a browsing rather than research title. As an introduction to nature study or as a supplement to more serious works, it will find a place in the library and classroom. --Eva Elisabeth Von Ancken, Trinity Pawling Sch . ,
