This is the 4th edition of Quick Stats which is a primer or "survival guide" for students and clinicians trying to learn the basics of medical literature evaluation. This edition still focuses on providing bullet point information for easier understanding of this complex subject. Changes since the last edition include more spacing for note-taking, clearer, more simplistic language and definitions, more examples and study questions, and expanded sections concerning multiple analyses, bonferroni correction, superiority vs non-inferiority and equivalence trials, modified intention to treat analysis, p for interaction, and propensity score matching.

About the Author

Dr. Herring graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and in 1994 with a Doctor of Pharmacy. His post-doctoral residency in pharmacy practice was completed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina in 1995.

Dr. Herring is currently an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the Campbell University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Buies Creek, North Carolina. He has been with Campbell University since 2001. He was the junior course director for the pharmacy school s medical literature evaluation course from 2002-2006 and has been the senior course director since 2007. He is also the Adult Medicine Team Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner (CPP) for the Downtown Health Plaza of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and has been in this position since 2001.
