About the Author:

Dorothy Tompkins Revell is a licensed registered dietitian who graduated from the University of North Dakota with a major in Foods and Nutrition. Completing a year of dietetic internship at Harper Hospital, Detroit, Michigan, she remained on the staff for a couple of years. Returning to Fargo, North Dakota, she opened the dietetic department at Dakota Clinic. She was with the Dakota Clinic for over eighteen years before going into private practice. Active on local, state, national and international levels of The American Dietetic Association, she has presented professional papers at the International Congress of Dietetics in 1961, London, England. After attending the International Congress at Stockholm, Sweden, in 1965, a post-study tour of nursery schools, clinics and hospitals in Moscow and Leningrad, Russia, was made. A professional paper was also presented at the International Congress of Dietetics held in Hanover, Germany, in 1973 and in Sidney, Australia, in 1977. She attended the Obesity Congress held in London, England, in 1974 and in 1975 the Nutrition Congress held in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Okinawa, Japan. In 1974 she visited Cape Town, South Africa, where she was invited to speak to the South African Dietetic Association and the Food Technology Society on "Cholesterol Lowering Diet". In 1974 she received the University of North Dakota Sioux Award for Distinguished Service and Outstanding A Ahievement. She has authored eight books on different phases of nutrition. She is listed in the Women of North Dakota Hall of Fame, Who's Who of American Women by A.N. Marquis Company and has been selected to appear in the eighth edition of Two Thousand Notable American Women in recognition of past achievements and outstanding service to community, state, and nation. This was presented by the Board of Registrars of the American Biographical Institute of the United States of America in 1996. She is listed in the 1997 Marquis Who's Who in Medicine and HealthCare and is also listed in the Fifty-second Edition in 1998 of Who's Who in America.

Dorothy Tomkins Revell and her husband, Eugene, have been married for sixty-two years and reside in Fargo, North Dakota. The Revells have one daughter, Dorothy.
