Ever since the publication of my second novel, Always, readers have been asking me what my next project was going to be and when it would come out. When I told them I was working on a story for Nathan Ward, best friend to my hero Michael Thorne in Always, the response was universal: I can't wait! Nathan's character struck a chord with so many readers, which didn't surprise me. Even while I was writing Always, I knew Nathan had to have a story of his own. And I wouldn't have dreamed of pairing him with anyone but his first love who he has never forgotten: Daphne Thorne. Daphne hasn't forgotten Nathan either, but her recollection of the past isn't quite as rosy as Nathan's. In fact, she resists him every step of the way. But Nathan was never one to give up when he really wants something.
For those of you who haven't read Always, never fear. Once and Again is definitely a stand alone book. But I have to warn you--once you read Nathan and Daphne's story, you are going to want to know how it all began . . .
Native New Yorker Deirdre Savoy spent her summers on the shores of Martha’s Vineyard, soaking up the sun and scribbling in one of her many notebooks.
It was there that she first started writing romance as a teenager. The island proved to be the perfect setting for her first novel, Spellbound, published by BET/Arabesque Books in 1999. Spellbound received rave reviews and earned her the distinction of the first Rising Star author of Romance in Color and was voted their Best New Author of 1999. Deirdre’s second book, Always, was published by BET/Arabesque in October 2000, Always was a February 2001 Selection for the Black Expressions Book Club. Once and Again, the sequel to Always, was published in May 2001, and a third book in the series, Midnight Magic is scheduled for holiday release 2001. Deirdre also won the first annual Emma award for Favorite New Author, presented at the 2001 Romance Slam Jam in Orlando, Florida.
In her other life, Deirdre is a teacher for the New York City Board of Education. After spending several years as a first grade teacher, Deirdre now teaches a Literacy through Science curriculum for grade K- 2. Deirdre started her career as a secretary in the school art department of Macmillan Publishing Company in New York, rising to Advertising/Promotion Supervisor of the International Division in three years. She has also worked as a freelance copy writer, legal proofreader, and news editor for CLASS magazine.
While studying at New York University, she founded the Gamma Delta Service Sorority with five other campus women. Today Gamma Delta is the oldest continuous sorority at NYU. She graduated from Bernard M. Baruch College of the City University of New York with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Marketing/Advertising.
Deirdre is a member of The Black Writer’s Alliance and African American Authors Helping Authors (AA-AHA). She lectures on such topics as Marketing Your Masterpiece, Getting Your Writing Career Started, and othertopics related to the craft of writing.
Deirdre lives in Bronx, New York with her husband of 10-plus years and their two children. In her spare time she enjoys reading, dancing, calligraphy and “wicked” crossword puzzles.
