John A. Torres is an award-winning newspaper reporter from Central Florida, and the author of more than 40 children s books, including many titles for Mitchell Lane Publishers. His stories have taken him to Zambia, Italy, Indonesia, Mexico, India, and Haiti. In 2009, he and his family traveled to the Central American country of Nicaragua. Torres found the mountains and volcanoes to be extraordinary, as were the friendliness and hospitality of the Nicaraguans. He spent a few days in Nueva Guinea and met many children like the new student Ramón in this book. He also visited Roberto Clemente Stadium in Masaya, near Managua.
