The goal of this book is to focus on introductory modeling techniques used in finite element analysis, and illustrated thought the use of the Algor program. Many of the capabilities and limitations of finite element analysis will be addressed. This will hopefully help the reader to become a more responsible user of the finite element method. Unfortunately, some people believe that finite element analysis is just another add-on feature to a CAD program, and therefore does not require any additional expertise to use. As many experienced finite element users will testify, the most impressive finite element mesh does not produce accurate results, if other parameters (such as: boundary conditions, loads, or element type) are not correctly defined. Hopefully, after reading this book and working through the exercises, the reader will gain an introductory understanding of how to build finite element models that correctly represent the corresponding physical parts.
