Walter R. Brooks (18861958) is the beloved author of 26 books about Freddy the Pig. Born in upstate New York, he attended the University of Rochester before going to work with the American Red Cross and editing for magazines, including The New Yorker. In addition to the Freddy books, Brooks created the character Mister Ed the talking horse.
