About the Author

René Daumal (1908–1944) was a French poet, novelist, essayist, and translator whose work combined literary experimentation with philosophical and spiritual inquiry. A founder of the influential avant-garde movement and journal Le Grand Jeu, he drew inspiration from poetry, metaphysics, Eastern thought, and the teachings of G. I. Gurdjieff. Though he died at just thirty-six, Daumal left a lasting mark on twentieth-century literature through works including A Night of Serious Drinking and his unfinished masterpiece, Mount Analogue, a cult classic that continues to inspire readers, writers, artists, and seekers around the world.
