Synopsis

Learn how to build and maintain SS7/C7 Telecommunications Architectures

Signaling System No. 7 (SS7/C7): Protocol, Architecture, and Applications, authored by Cisco Systems team members who helped develop Cisco SS7/C7 plans, offers:
  • Broad coverage of SS7/C7 practices, including both networking and telecommunications applications
  • Exclusive coverage of SS7/C7 over IP and over Voice/Data Fax using real world examples

Signaling System No. 7 (SS7/C7): Protocol, Architecture, and Applications teaches engineers SS7/C7 architectures and operations maintenance. Complete with coverage of both North American and international standards, the reader will learn about basic call setup, management, and tear down, personal communications services (PCS), wireless roaming, and mobile subscriber authentication. Local number portability (LNP), toll-free (800/888) and toll (900) wireline services are also covered, as well as other enhanced features and security management.

Signaling (specifically SS7/C7) is a core technology of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). The PSTN carries the voice/data/fax and also provides signaling information for the vast array of resources used to transport voice/data/fax. This signaling network utilizes the SS7/C7 protocol to meet its objectives. These objectives are largely call setup and cleardown, as well as Intelligent Network (IN) services such as 0800 (1-800), calling card validation, Local Number Portability (LNP) and supplementary services like caller ID.

Every piece of equipment that plugs into the PSTN must adhere strictly to the SS7/C7 protocol. Service providers in every market segment are taking advantage of SS7/C7 interfaces to lower their costs and improve their competitiveness in services. Signaling System No. 7 (SS7/C7): Protocol, Architecture, and Applications is the most comprehensive and detailed SS7/C7 book available, making it a valuable resource to both networking and telecommunications professionals.
