About the Author
Roxie Munro is a fine artist and the author-illustrator of a number of books for children, including her acclaimed Inside-Outside series; Christmastime in New York City; and Blimps. She lives in New York City.

Gr 1-4-Graduates of "Where's Waldo?" who are looking for something a little more challenging will find it in Munro's brightly colored and intricate paintings, which lend themselves to careful examination as readers enjoy bird's-eye views of the landscape. The title page gives a clue as to how this work might be used: a hand is shown carrying the book toward a car being loaded for a trip. The next spread shows the car on its way, with the book open to the page of instructions. What follows is a series of mazes that lead youngsters through cityscapes and over country roads. The game is to "Find the way to the zoo and back home again." It becomes more challenging if readers follow suggestions for other activities, such as "Search for the family car" or "Count the number of people walking dogs." The many interesting details will keep car-bound children occupied for a long time. Concluding answer keys will help those who become lost along the way.

Roxie Munro uses eye-popping artwork to lead readers on a drive to the zoo in Mazescapes. Children are invited to navigate through aerial mazes with any of six punch-out cars; each maze connects to the one on the following page. Along the way, kids can play five additional games (e.g., the "ABC travel game," counting bicycles and school buses). Munro's signature style guides drivers through small towns, bustling cities and finally to the zoo, and she encourages them to take an alternate route home.
