Synopsis
A herd of horses thundered down from Ragged Hound Butte. They took the steep, grottoed bank on their rumps, bunched quickly, and strung out up the trail in a long, swiftly moving column. Behind bobbed two riders - mere corks on a swimming sea of heat. Dust rose from the greasewood flats to powder their chaps and wide-brimmed hats and glisten in the stubble on their faces. Dust hung to their sticky saddles and lay in a gray blanket on the sweaty necks of their mounts. . . .
