Rather than provide a survey of a group of countries, as in many other introductions to comparative politics, Lim (political science, California State U.) prefers to focus on the methodological and theoretical aspects of the field. He begins with a broad introduction to the basics in which he describes rationalist comparison, the structural tradition, and the cultural tradition, the three primary research traditions of the field. He then provides chapters in which he shows how each tradition approaches questions related to poverty, prosperity, democracy, terrorism and political violence, and social movements.
