About the Author:
Kate Farrell, founder of the Wisdom Has a Voice project, earned her masters at the School of Library and Information Studies, UC Berkeley. She has been a language arts classroom teacher (pre-school and grades kindergarten through 12th), author, librarian, university lecturer, and storyteller in Northern California since 1966. She founded the Word Weaving Storytelling Project, based on her experience with storytelling and her belief in it, to encourage educators at all levels to learn and enjoy the art.
In 2006, when her mother passed away, Kate discovered in her mother's absence the deep influence her mother had always had on her life. Yet much of what was communicated had been unspoken--a tug of war of different priorities and directions. It wasn't until Kate let go with her mother's passing that she began to really understand her own mother. How much better to have accepted her mother's issues, history, and core truths earlier in life, while her mother was still with her.
Now Kate sees a new tradition of storytelling among women, that between daughter and mother. What was mother really trying to tell us? Sometimes she spoke in actions and not words. With this anthology Kate hopes to find out and share the wisdom of our mothers and the meaning daughters bring to this unique and deeply bonded relationship through memoir.
