About the Author:
Dr. John Guthrie was born in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, the fifth of six children. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after high school. He also served as a medical officer in the United States Naval Reserve after completing his medical training. His rise from red clay poverty to distinguished physician is in itself a compelling and moving tale. Dr. Guthrie owned and operated the Guthrie Clinic in his home town of Spartanburg and also founded an international medical relief agency, the Agency for International Understanding. Guthrie has received multiple honors for his contributions to medicine and the community. He's a graduate of Mercer University, Duke University and completed his medical degree at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has published numerous professional items, short stories and poems in the United States and abroad. Dr. Guthrie now resides alongside a tidal creek in Charleston County, South Carolina, with his Russian born wife, their six year old son, a chocolate Cocker Spaniel with soulful eyes, two disdainful Persian cats and several anonymous fish.
