PreS-In this lively concept book, 10 fluffy ducks in bright flippers and fins, inner tubes and water wings, line up on a diving board to take a swim in a small inflatable pool. None of them wants to be the first to take the plunge, but by the last page, they are all enjoying the water with a "splish, splash, splosh!" The cartoon illustrations, set against a crisp white background, are colorful and cleanly executed, if a bit static. The ducks, with little dot eyes, are playfully charming. The rhyming text is appropriately short and printed in a large font for easy reading. Sound effects printed in smaller text are sprinkled throughout. The numbers on each page are spelled out in uppercase letters, but numerals would have been a nice addition. Although the story is generic, the cheerful colors and lively characters will appeal to babies and toddlers.
