Grade 3-5-These titles have an appealing design and layout, with large-print texts. Alphabetically arranged, Cities is set up with the state name in bold print, the city name beneath, a color photo, and brief text. San Francisco, Miami, Chicago, Boston, New York City, and Philadelphia are represented, as are some lesser-known cities, such as Hot Springs, AR; Coeur d'Alene, ID; Vicksburg, MS; and Rapid City, SD. However, the information presented is quite limited in scope. There are no maps or statistics and the facts that are supplied are insufficient for reports. The "Cities of the World" series (Children's), Shirley Climo's "City!" books (Macmillan), and the "Kidding Around!" series (Avalon Travel) are better choices on individual locales. In the second book, most of the seals appear in color on individual pages with state name in bold print and a short text that explains its details, history, and design. It can be used to supplement Annemarie Berg's Great State Seals of the United States (Dodd, Mead, 1979; o.p.).
