About the Author

A veteran of thirty years as a National Park Service ranger, Jim Burnett worked at eight parks all across the United States, including Grand Canyon, Glacier, Lake Mead and Buffalo River before retiring as chief ranger at Colonial National Historical Park. Author of several articles in national periodicals, he now lives near Athens, Texas.

From the Back Cover

"Hey Ranger! is a collection of great stories that only a ranger could have experienced. After 30 years in the field, I have a feeling there are many more, but Jim has selected the best of the best for all to enjoy." Ron Epstein, Good Sam Club.

"The contents of Hey Ranger! struck a familiar chord with this old 24/7 ranger. Everyone who has worn the gray and green will relate immediately to stories of the lighter side of rangering, an antidote to the often dangerous, deadly situations we faced." Russ Dickenson, former Director, National Park Service.

"During a 30-year career with the National Park Service, Jim Burnett witnessed the public at its best and also at its dumbest. Luckily, he took notes. Burnett's wry observations of an urban public loose in the wilderness are both humorous and educational." Ray Sasser, Dallas Morning News.

"Yep, this is how it really is to be a National Park ranger-lots of variety, sometimes problems and mishaps. But even the problems make for good stories. Hey Ranger! is fun. I couldn't put it down until I'd read it all." Ken Smith, former National Park Service employee and author of The Buffalo River Country and Buffalo River Handbook.

"Culled from Jim's thirty years of "rangering" for the National Park Service, the incidents in this book are guaranteed to produce chuckles and downright belly-laughs!" Dr. Richard Bury, former Professor of Recreation and Parks, Texas A&M University.
