Synopsis
A young girl witnesses a natural phenomenon in Mobile Bay. Set in the summer of 1963, this story follows Caroline on her trip to Fairhope, Alabama, where she witnesses her first jubilee. During the natural phenomenon, various types of marine life wash onto the shore during the night. She captures this memorable event on her camera, along with other highlights from her trip. Illuminating illustrations and a glossary of terms enhance this story of beachside fun.

Set in 1963, this story follows young Caroline on her summer vacation in Fairhope, Alabama. She arrives at her grandmother's house excited about the carefree days ahead and eager to witness her first jubilee. During this maritime phenomenon, aquatic life-such as shrimp, crabs, and flounder-gravitate to the shoreline of Mobile Bay.
When the anticipated jubilee finally occurs, Caroline captures each exciting moment, along with other bits of summer fun, on her Kodak Instamatic Camera. In addition to vibrantly detailed illustrations, a glossary of terms completes this enjoyable tale.
Karyn W. Tunks is an associate professor at the University of South Alabama, where she earned both a BS and an MEd in early childhood education. Tunks later obtained a PhD from Florida State University, also in education. She teaches courses in adolescent and children's literature and on motivating and teaching writing in the elementary classroom. Dr. Tunks lives in Fairhope, Alabama, with her family.
In addition to illustrating, Julie Dupr� Buckner paints portraits and teaches art classes. She earned a BFA from Louisiana Tech University and is a member of the Portrait Society of America and the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Buckner also illustrated Pelican's Clovis Crawfish and Echo Gecko, Clovis Crawfish and Silvie Sulphur, and Clovis Crawfish and the Twin Sister. She resides in Plaquemine, Louisiana.
About the Author
KARYN W. TUNKS received her PhD in early childhood education from the University of South Alabama. She is a member of the National Council of Teachers of English and the Alabama Association for Young Children.
A member of the Portrait Society of America, Julie Dupré Buckner received a BFA from Louisiana Tech University. She also illustrated Pelicanés Army Camels: Texas Ships of the Desert, Jubilee!, Clovis Crawfish and Echo Gecko, Clovis Crawfish and Silvie Sulphur, and Clovis Crawfish and the Twin Sister. She lives in Plaquemine, Louisiana, and teaches an abstract expressionist painting class for beginners.
