The book has three foci: It explains why traditional understandings of metaphor are inadequate, introduces conceptual metaphor theory and methodology, and deploys those methods to analyze the cultural logic, moral content, and ethical implications of 1 Peter. Bonnie Howe received her Ph.D. from the Graduate Theological Union and teaches at the Dominican University of California, the University of San Francisco, and New College Berkeley. Her main interests are New Testament interpretation and Christian social ethics; her research employs cognitive linguistic theories and methods to analyze moral discourse.
