Synopsis
The Ganges tells the story of one of the world's most remarkable rivers. From its pristine source high in the Himalayan Mountains, the Ganges cuts across the Indian subcontinent to its destination at the Bay of Bengal providing water to 400 million Indians. Besides the use of water for drinking and agriculture, Hindus have bathed in its waters that have been revered as a source for spiritual cleansing for thousands of years. Recently however, pollutants in the forms of cremated bodies, human sewage, and chemical effluents from factories have severely poisoned the river creating an extremely troublesome problem for all along living along its banks.
