This convenient, pocket-sized volume presents a verse of scripture for each day of the year, along with insights from the authors. Lloyd D. Newell and Robert L. Millet serve as guides on a scriptural tour of latter-day revelation, with commentary on such fundamental maters as the nature of the Godhead, the reality of Satan, and the purpose of mortality. Excerpt (Preface)
After long centuries in which divine authority and precious truths were lost from the earth, morning broke on a beautiful spring day in 1820. God the Eternal Father and his Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, appeared to a fourteen-year-old boy who was seeking divine assurance. That First Vision marked the beginning of God s revelations in this final dispensation and the reestablishment of his kingdom on the earth. Foundational to it were the translation and publication of the Book of Mormon, which sets forth plainly the nature of fallen man and the need for redemption from the Fall and reconciliation with the Father through the gift of the Atonement.
The Lord continued to reveal his truths to the young Prophet Joseph Smith, giving him precept upon precept the instructions necessary to organize and teach a covenant people. Soon the revelations were compiled into the volume of scripture we know as the Doctrine and Covenants. Just as the keystone of our religion, the Book of Mormon, invites all to come unto Christ, so the capstone of our religion, the Doctrine and Covenants, invites all to come unto Christ s kingdom, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. (Benson, A Witness and a Warning, 36).
We invite you to walk with us through the Doctrine and Covenants, reading the passages of scripture and reflecting upon their meaning. Intended only to add to your scripture study, not to replace it, the daily essays are our thoughts, and we encourage you to search the scriptures for your own insights and applications.
"Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you; seek me diligently and ye shall find me (Doctrine and Covenants 88:63)."
