Lady (Jack) Troutbeck is missing. So is celebrity curator Sir Henry Fortune and his partner, art dealer Jason Pringle. Then the London art world panics when no one can locate Anastasia Holliday, sensational abject artist; Jake Thorogood, the critic who catapulted her into stardom; or Dr. Hortense Wilde, who influenced generations of art students to despise craftsmanship. Who will be next? Sir Nicholas Serota, mighty overlord of British temples of the avant garde? Internationally renowned Young British Artist Damien Hirst? Charles Saatchi, mega-rich husband of a TV cook, who took talentless young people and turned them into a winning brand? When news comes of a New York disappearance, the fears of the art establishment go transatlantic. And now Baroness Troutbeck is a target. Can Jack's friends rescue her before she becomes the next horrifying "hommage murder" satirizing notorious works of art?

About the Author:

Since 1993 Ruth has written seriously and/or frivolously for almost every national newspaper in the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom and appears frequently on radio and television in Ireland, the UK and on the BBC World Service. Ruth feels both Irish and English and greatly enjoys being part of both cultures. The Anglo-Irish Murders, her ninth crime novel, is a satire on the peace process. Three times a bridesmaid, she has been shortlisted by the Crime Writers Association for the John Creasey Award for the best first novel and twice for the Last Laugh award for the funniest crime novel of the year. http: //www.ruthdudleyedwards.co.uk/

From Booklist:
Baroness Ida Jack Troutbeck is kidnapped, along with an assortment of art critics, consultants, historians, collectors, gallery owners, and artists, all of whom, except Jack, are enthusiastic about the conceptual art movement. Their sociopathic kidnapper, Oleg Sarkovsky, believes each of the people he has snatched has wronged him in some way, and he is determined to exact revenge. While Jack’s friends Robert Amiss and Mary Lou Dinsmore work behind the scenes to locate and free Jack, Mary Lou’s husband, Detective Inspector Ellis Pooley, handles the official investigation. As some of the kidnap victims begin to show up dead in staged conceptual art installations, the ante is upped dramatically. Jack is the only one of those kidnapped who knows that those who have disappeared from the group are being murdered, but she tries to keep spirits up and protect the others as best she can. Less a mystery, since the reader is privy to events at the location where the victims are held, the novel does deliver suspense as it skewers the conceptual art movement. --Sue OBrien
