Born in Somerville, New Jersey, Joe Del Rocco is retired from a successful newspaper carreer that spanned forty years. He started his career at age 21 with the Somerset Messenger-Gazette,the local hometown weekly newspaper where he was hired as a clerk. He was soon promoted into the Advertising Sales Department, and eventually became the Advertising Manager. After more than ten years with the hometown paper, he was recruited and hired by the then Bridgewater Courier News, a Gannett Newspaper, and soon became part of their management team. In 1979 he was again recruited, this time by the Ft. Lauderdale News/Sun Sentinel, a Tribune Company newspaper, and became part if their Advertising Management team. In 1982, Joe was then promoted to The Orlando Sentinel, Orlando, Florida, another Tribune property, where he accepted a Division Manager position. During his tenure with The Orlando Sentinel, he held several Division Manager positions, which included responsibilities for the Classified Advertising Department, the Retail Advertising Department and the Advertising Operations Department. During his career, he won numerous awards from the New Jersey Press Association, the Florida Press Association and other National newspaper organizations. At the time of his retirement, Joe decided to remain in Florida where he is presently working on two other manuscripts, one of which is a satirical look at the newspapers where he worked and the industry as a whole during his forty years. They are seen from his perspective regarding everything from the customers of newspapers, management styles, management decisions and a host of industry situations as they relate employees and readers, which the general public rarely has an opportunity to see or know about. Aside from his love for writing, his other interests include surf fishing, reading and photography. However, as you may surmise from his writings in "Random Thoughts" his greatest interest and joy is the time he now spends with his four childern and six grandchildren, along with periodic trips to New Jersey to visit family and friends. He presently resides in Lake Mary, a community just north of Orlando, Florida.
