When Newt took Zeke's map into the Sonoran desert, little did he realize that he was the central figure in a pre-conceived plot. He went in search of a rich gold mine, but discovered much more than he ever dreamed of, when he found Conchita. Conchita had lived her entire sixteen years at Rancho de Oro in the remote desert foothills. Naïve and unspoiled the beautiful Mexican girl knew from the first meeting with Newt that he was destined to be her 'gringo'. Together they faced the dangers and tribulations of the harsh environment with undying devotion.

About the Author:
The last half of the 19th century was a period of history that brought about sweeping changes in the United States. This era ushered in cultural change and initiated the technologies, which we take for granted today. As an author I have a fascination for that half-century. The California Gold Rush resulted in one of the largest migrations of people in recorded history. The influx of immigrants from Eastern Europe was largely responsible for the ‘melting pot’ of today’s society. I am also intrigued by the treatment of Native Americans, who were robbed of their homeland and deemed not worthy of citizenship. The Federal Government cannot be accused of any just treatment of these ‘people’. The list of developments of this half-century is large. From the development of the railroads to the advent of the internal combustion engine automobile our transportation systems underwent radical change. The development of the telegraph and the telephone opened the way for rapid communication. It is a common misconception that the majority of people of this era were backward and uneducated, which is totally untrue. The finest colleges and universities that are flourishing today either were established or gained prominence during this period of time. It is about these people and innovations that I write books. Through research I, myself, attain knowledge, which I attempt to pass along to my meager collection of faithful readers. My writing is a hobby and I have no ‘illusions of grandeur’ that I will attain status in the realm of literature, and become a ‘best-selling’ author. My rewards are attained when my friends compliment me for writing a ‘good story’.
