About the Author

An expert on building entrepreneurial companies with values centered leadership, Pam Watson Korbel founded SmartGrowth, Inc. of Denver in 1996. SmartGrowth's brand promise is that clients will make more money, work less hours and have more fun. Pam is considered a pioneer in the field of business coaching. Her firm is now serving clients throughtout the nation and is preparing the first ever business coaching certification that will be offered to other coaches nationally. The former CEO of a rapidly growing integrated software firm, in 2993, Pam was a finalist for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the program sponsored by Inc. Magazine. She has also worked in strategic and sales positions in Fortune 200 and Inc. 500 companies. Pam's mentoring extends as well to her volunteer work, which is focused on raising the self-esteem of women and children. Pam coaches girls' softball and is certified by Positive Coaching and the American Sports Education Program. A life-long Girl Scout, she also is a troop leader for middle school girls. Pam has led efforts in the Denver area to teach entrepreneurial skills to Girl Scouts. While a resident of San Diego, CA, she co-founded the Roads to Self-Employment Program, which helped women to reduce their dependence upon welfare by becoming entrepreneurs. In the business community, Pam is President of the Denver chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) and serves on the national Member Services Council. For 2003, she has been named the Women's Business Advocate by the U.S. Small Business Administration. In 2000, she was named Small Business Person of the Year by NAWBO. She has also been active with the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, which awarded her the Chamber Champion Award in 1998 for volunteer efforts to assist small, growing businesses. Pam is a graduate of Creighton University, Omaha, NE, holding a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism and a Master of Business Administration Degree
