Synopsis

The book includes essays on postcolonial literature, cross-cultural studies and multi-cultural scenario as reflected in literature. It is interesting to note the extent to which New literatures in English have altered / modified the canon of English literary studies thus allowing a larger space for it to be accommodated in the book. Therefore, an attempt to suggest alternate reading of not only the postcolonial texts but also those of the English and American canon has been encouraged. The book is intended to enrich and enlarge the interrrogation of migrations, diasporic cultures, narratives, identities and literary constructions. The focus on the growth and development of contemporary literature will enhance the scope of the current debate on polyethnic, multi-cultural texts that are studied and discussed at the national and international seminars all over the world. The contributors to this volume include well-known scholars and writers such as Kamau Brathwaite, Ngugi wa Thiong o, John Skinner, and Rohan Quince.

About the Author

K. T. Sunitha has specialized in commonwealth, American and English literature. She has won the subjects scholarship as a student, Commonwealth Scholarship (UK) (Fellow of the Commonwealth Foundation and Technical Cooperation (CFTC), London) as a research and Shastri Indo-Canadian Fellowship as a senior lecturer. She has published several research articles in National and International journals of repute. The Sunday Herald and The Literary Half Yearly have published more than a hundred of her book reviews. She has published short stories in Hecate (Australian Journal) and Zenith (Indian Journal). She has published many interviews with CLR James, Ngugi Wa'Thiongo, Edward Kamau Brathwaite, John Hearne, Earl Lovelace and George Lamming. She has been serving as an active member in several editorial committees. She has been teaching literature for several years at Department of Studies in English. She has been the adjudicator of many Ph.D. theses. She is currently involved in many activities related to women's studies at the University of Mysore.
