This first edition of The Asian Databook uses the same format as the publisher's Hispanic Databook and takes a detailed look at the growing Asian population in the U.S. It presents statistical data for the 50 states plus the District of Columbia, 907 counties and county equivalents (all those with a population of over 49,999), and 874 cities and municipalities (those with a population of over 9,999 or having an Asian population that is higher than the national average of 3.61 percent). Twenty-three Asian, native Hawaiian, and other Pacific Islander groups are covered. Data were derived from the U.S. Bureau of the Census, Census of Population and Housing, 2000: Summary File 4 for these population groups.
The first section contains statistical tables for 14 topics, including population, age, language spoken at home, education, income, home ownership, and more. The tables themselves are arranged alphabetically by state, then by county, then by place-name. The second section contains rankings, and only the top 75 places are listed for each data element. The ranking tables provide users with ways to determine population characteristics and see trends. An additional feature is the "City Finder List," an alphabetical list of cities intended to help users who don't know the county or state in which a city is located. The Asian Databook CD-ROM, available at no additional charge, contains the same topics as the book but covers thousands more places--all states, counties, and cities with Asian populations.
This useful resource will help those searching for demographics data and market research or relocation information. The depth of the information on the CD-ROM will be especially useful for market research.
