Laurence Jones, Angelo State University
Laurence F. Jones is professor of government at Angelo State University, where he has served since 1990. Professor Jones received his undergraduate degree from Regis College, his M.A. in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma, and the Ph.D. in Urban Politics and Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington. He has held visiting teaching positions at the University of Texas at San Antonio and Texas Southern University. Professor Jones is the co-author of Political Science Research: A Handbook of Scope and Method with Edward C. Olson. He has also coauthored numerous journal articles dealing with minority representational change in Texas city and county governments, the politics of early voting in Texas, political party realignment in Texas county government, and the extent of capital budgeting in Texas. He also coauthored an extensive annotated bibliography of energy-related studies. In addition, Professor Jones developed several instructor resource guides instructors can use when teaching American government. He designed the guides to be used with the MicroCase data analysis package. Professor Jones regularly teaches undergraduate courses in Federal and Texas state government, Urban Politics and Policy, The Mass Media, Society, and Public Policy, and, of course, The Scope and Methods of Political Science. Professor Jones also teaches and leads graduate seminars in Public Personnel Management, Urban Politics, and Administrative Methods. In addition to these activities, he is the managing editor of the Texas Journal of Political Studies and is an active researcher in several policy areas including public safety, urban affairs, and race relations
Edward Olson, Angelo State University
Edward C. Olson is Professor of Government and Head of the Department at Angelo State University. He received his B.A. and M.A. in Political Science from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and the Ph.D. in 1978 from the University of California at Davis (UCD). He has held teaching positions at UCD, California State University, Sacramento, and since 1979, at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. Professor Olson has served as Department Head since 1990. Professor Olson has taught a variety of courses in American Politics, Campaigns and Elections, the Presidency, the Politics of Western Europe in addition to Research Methods. His research has appeared in Western Political Quarterly, The American Journal of Political Science, Campaigns and Elections, and The Texas Journal of Political Studies. He is coauthor of Political Science Research: A Handbook of Scope and Method with Laurence F. Jones. Olson has served as the principal campaign advisor on numerous campaigns for state and local candidates, and worked as a committee and legislative assistant in the Texas House of Representatives. He lives with his wife Shelly in San Angelo, and as a flat lander, still enjoys skiing as much as he can throughout the Rockies.
