This fascinating human interest view of U.S. Forest Service professionals tells the stories that explain why both men and women have joined the Forest Service over the years, and what motivated these young people to dedicate their lives to stewardship of America’s forest resources. The participants in this comprehensive oral history speak frankly about their experiences and philosophy of fire protection and conservation of our forest resources, “old-timers” describe their social history and their sense of the loss of a forest community, and the narrative concludes with the heartwarming stories that naturally radiate from these dedicated professionals. 204 Pages; 2 Maps; 33 Historical Photos, plus current photos of the 36 Interviewees
