Around the world, Jews celebrate the miracle of Passover with a Seder. In this follow-up to last season's acclaimed The Miracle of Hanukkah, Josh Hanft retells the story of the Jews' exodus from Egypt, explaining both the history and modern traditions of the Seder. From the story of Moses and the exodus from Egypt to the description of the Seder plate, the significance of one of the most important holidays of the Jewish calendar is explored.
Inventive lift-the-flaps will engage and inform young readers, and Seymour Chwast's luminous artwork truly brings this holiday to life.

Josh Hanft is the President of Congregation Ansche Chesed of New York. In addition to writing children's books, he is also a freelance editor. He lives in Manhattan with his wife, three sons, and two guinea pigs.
Seymour Chwast is the director of the Push Pin Group, a design firm that he cofounded in 1954. His graphic design and illustrations are well-known internationally, and he has written and/or illustrated more than thirty books for children. He lives in New York City with his wife, Paula Scher.
In clear detail, this picture book tells the history of the Passover holiday and how Jews celebrate it today. Chwast's bright, cartoon-style, line-and-watercolor illustrations extend the story with dramatic scenes of oppression and escape. One double-page spread shows Moses leading his people out of Egypt under the cover of night. Then there is the scene of the parting of the waters, allowing the Jews to cross safely, followed by the sea closing back up on the pursuing soldiers. Lift-the-flap art focuses on the drama of the burning bush, on each of the 10 plagues, and on the meaning of each of the special foods on the seder plate. The story is still clear without the sturdy paper flaps, which may nevertheless tear with heavy circulation, but the interactive format makes this great for family sharing so that even preschoolers will be engaged in the ceremony.
