About the Author

Patricia L. Hollingsworth has been the director of the University School at the University of Tulsa, a school for gifted students from preschool through eighth grade, for more than 20 years. In addition to her work as director, she also teaches art and kindergarten. She has served as president of the Oklahoma Association for Gifted, Creative, and Talented, and was on the board of directors of the National Association for Gifted Children for 12 years. She received a service award from both the state gifted organization and NAGC. She was the project director and principal investigator for two U.S. Department of Education Javits grants. Recently she was selected for her service to children as one of "Twenty Tulsans Who Care."

Dr. Hollingsworth is a coauthor of Smart Art, Active Learning, Kinetic Kaleidoscope, and the SAILS Humanities Curriculum. Additionally, she has written many chapters in books and articles about issues related to gifted students. She currently is completing three entries for the Encyclopedia of Giftedness, Creativity, and Talent. She has conducted staff development training and given presentations in many states in the United States, as well as in Mexico, Canada, and the Netherlands. In March 2008, she visited China and Vietnam as part of a principal shadowing project.

Stephen Hollingsworth graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in theater and from the University of Tulsa with a degree in electrical engineering. He has given Smart Art presentations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
